I flunked my first job interview, but I still got the offer
August 21, 2025Every workplace has tools and processes, but it’s the people who make the real impact. I had the privilege of working with a team that felt like family. Talented UX digital and industrial designers, developers, engineers, researchers, and leaders who created an environment where ideas could breathe.
As a child, I loved sketching anything I could imagine. But where I grew up, art wasn’t seen as a real path. It was treated like a phase. Something you were expected to outgrow. When my parents noticed how much I enjoyed fine arts, it wasn’t nurtured. I was scolded until the habit faded. The drawings stopped, but the creativity found another outlet and eventually led me to UX design.
One of the highlights of my last role was working closely with the industrial designers on our team. Watching them sketch lighting products with such precision and confidence felt like seeing my childhood dream in its adult form. It reminded me that design isn’t just digital screens. It’s thinking. It’s imagination. It’s problem-solving. It’s the courage to bring something from mind to paper.
Seeing them work felt like a small reunion with the version of me that loved to create.
The skills behind every creative beginning, curiosity, observation, patience, and imagination, follow us into every chapter of our lives. That’s why multidisciplinary teams matter so much. You learn to see problems through lenses you wouldn’t have built on your own.
